The Eels celebrate World Down’s Syndrome Day in style!

Saturday the 21st May was World Down’s Syndrome Day and the Eels celebrated in style. We changed our normal Saturday evening session to showcase what a fantastic club we are, full of talent, both our swimmers and volunteers!

The evening kicked off with a fabulous display of Synchronised Swimming with Teresa, Vivian, Jack and Eleanor all giving us demonstrations of their individual routines. This was followed by all our swimmers taking part in a mixed ability relay event. Relays are a new adventure for us and we went for mixed teams with fast paced, fun style races so that all our swimmers could be involved. Five teams competed in four different events from noodle to team raft races. The result was loads of fun, some excellent standout swims from  our improvers and plenty of cheering from the assembled spectators. Check out the photos in the gallery here!

The last race was a volunteer mixed medley relay. Once Graham was able to explain the rules (him being our Olympic Champion) eight volunteers demonstrated we can actually swim, even butterfly!

Our friends from the local Masonic Lodge came to spectate and very kindly donated another £1,000 towards funding our new website which was launched with bubbles and snacks at the end of the evening.

More exciting events to follow!
